Meet the Team

Kev Turner

Lead Coach & Founder

Kev is the driving force behind GoMTBKids. As a British Cycling qualified coach and Level 3 Mountain Bike Leader, he combines 40 years of experience riding Mountain Bikes. His mission? To get kids off screens, onto trails, and building real confidence on two wheels through fun, structured group sessions. Its all about ‘Hands for Handlebars!’

He’ll be looking to develop our Intermediate offering with Riders looking to progress into the Bike Park.

GoMTBKids is a mountain bike coaching programme based at Moors Valley Country Park, designed to help young riders build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy riding off-road.

Led by British Cycling qualified coaches, our sessions focus on creating a supportive, engaging environment where kids can progress at their own pace — from their very first ride to more advanced trail and bike park skills.

The GoMTBKids Progressive Coaching Pathway

Our progressive coaching pathway helps young riders build confidence, skills and independence through a structured series of sessions.

To attend any session beyond Pre-Riders, children must be able to ride independently without stabilisers and start and stop safely using their brakes.

Pre-Riders (1 Hour)

A Parent & Child session for children who are new to cycling or developing basic riding skills.

We'll provide guidance, activities and games to help you support your child's cycling journey at their own pace.

Skills Assessment / Taster (2 Hours)

A practical session that allows coaches to assess a rider's current ability and recommend the most appropriate next step within the pathway.

Core Skills Course (6 x 2 Hours)

The foundation of all mountain bike progression.

This six-session course develops the essential skills required for safe and confident mountain biking and prepares riders for further progression within the GoMTBKids pathway.

Introduction to Bike Park (4 Hours)

A one-off introduction to riding purpose-built trails and features within the Watchmoor Bike Park.

Eligibility: Completion of a GoMTBKids Skills Assessment or Core Skills Course is required.

Intermediate Coaching Course (6 x 3 Hours)

Designed for riders looking to progress their trail riding skills within the Watchmoor Bike Park, working towards confident riding on Green, Blue and Red trails.

Eligibility: Completion of a GoMTBKids Skills Assessment or Core Skills Course is required.

Holiday Club Sessions

Fun, age-appropriate cycling sessions during school holidays, featuring rides, games, challenges and adventure-based activities.

Holiday Clubs are recreational sessions and do not form part of the formal coaching pathway. No formal coaching, assessments or progression awards are included.
